Boreas Pass
Description
This was taken in the fall on Boreas Pass in Colorado between Como and Breckinridge. The Boreas Pass Railroad was a significant part of Colorado's history, serving as a vital route for the Colorado Gold Rush and later as a narrow-gauge railroad. The pass was originally called Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s and was widened to accommodate stagecoaches in 1866. It was later converted into an automobile pass in 1952. The railroad line was a major engineering feat, primarily due to the high altitude snows, and was in operation from 1872 to 1938. The pass was also used as a ghost town for workers to clear the line in winter. The railroad line was abandoned in 1937, and after World War II, the route was reconstructed for automobile traffic.
